When God Says Move, You Move

Soooooo I moved! Again. For like the 7th time.

*insert shocked face here

Some of you may remember the “Blessed in the City” blog series from Summer 2018. In it, I discussed some of the joys and challenges of moving and the process behind some Christians’ relocation from one city to another.

Well, here is a life update for you: I’ve had to go back and read those blog posts and apply so many of the things I mentioned in them to my current situation.

I laid in bed late one night and I desperately asked God what He wanted me to do….. About my career, about my living situation, about my life in general. I heard God say “No. What do YOU want?”.

I’m not the most specific person when I pray for things on my own behalf. ya’ll. I normally just say “Your will be done, Lord”, “Use me, Lord”, “Whatever you want, Lord”, and “I want what you want Lord”. I’m usually so indecisive about things that to me, these phrases are a win-win. I don’t have to take ownership of my own decisions if things go left and I take pressure off myself (no decision anxiety).

But there was something about this night……. God has tasked me. He had given me the responsibility of stating my desires. Of really and truly making my desires known.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6

So, I did. I took a deep breath and thought about things that would make me happy. Things that would make me stop feeling like I was “settling” in life. Things that make me smile. Things that I was good at. Things that I would be proud of. Things that would challenge me but in a good way. Things that would grow my relationship with Him.

I poured out my heart, verbalized my concerns, relayed my ideas. I DREAMED. And when I closed my eyes, I still said “your will be done, Lord”.

Would you believe that after that, things started happening? Like REALLY HAPPENING. And happening quickly too, may I add.

An excerpt from the blog post “Plot Twist: Trusting God to Write Your Best Story” discussed how “SUDDENLY” God can do things. He is the author, right? So at any time, He writes and rewrites the story.

Well, family, let me tell you. God answered my prayer regarding my career. He answered my prayer regarding familial relationships and friendships. He answered my prayer in regards to finances. Little did I know these answered prayers would require a MOVE. A move 700+ miles away from home. The biggest move of my life!

So here I am in my new home—– Alexandria, Virginia. I spent my 31st birthday on a one way flight to my new home. To a place where I will have to once again, depend on God whole-heartedly. A place where I will be stretched mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

But I welcome the stretch. I talk to God about it. I say “God, I trust you”.

Stay Tuned, Family! Looks like 2020 will be a good one 🙂
