About My Father’s Business

Did ya’ll know Jesus had a little “back-talk” in Him?

Oh yea. Think back to the story in the Bible (Book of Luke) when Mary and Joseph are looking for Jesus as a child. They were visiting a town and when it was time to leave, Jesus stayed behind and for three days…. THREE…. Mary and Joseph couldn’t find Him.

I don’t know about ya’ll but if I did this as a child, I may have gotten a good ol’ fashioned, down home whooping for this.

Just picture this:

“His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.  And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it;  but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.  So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.  Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously”

Jesus replies:

And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?Luke 2:49

*walks to get switch or belt myself (lol, j/k)

No, but seriously. I love this phrase About my Father’s business. Jesus was willing to risk getting lost, getting in trouble, everything—- just to teach the scholars about God and learn from the scholars. Whew! That’s a lot, especially for a child.

So I ask you today—- “How about your father’s business are you?”

  • Do you sacrifice for the Lord?
  • Do you give to the Lord?
  • Do you commune with the Lord?
  • Do you worship Him?
  • Do you honor Him with all you do and have?
  • Do you proclaim the Good News (when its convenient and inconvenient)?
  • Do you risk it all for the Lord?

This my friend is how “about our Father’s business” we have to be. We have to turn it all the way up for God! He is our Father. He is our Daddy. We have to be AAAALLLLL about His business. He is so awesome and we are all charged with the great commission—- to preach the Gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15)

Let’s be all about our Father’s business, ya’ll!
