No Way Out: Trusting God to be a Waymaker

“Happy Fall, ya”ll!”

That is all I’ve been hearing lately.

Yes, Fall is definitely upon us but I can’t decide what I love most about this season—- football, the weather, or corn mazes.

There’s this corn maze in Watksinsville, GA that I like to go to sometimes. It’s wonderful and I’m convinced each time I go that I have more fun than an adult rightfully should lol. My most favorite time to go to the corn maze is at night—when flashlights are required. Every time I go, I check the farm’s website and look at the map of the corn maze, beforehand. I’m always eager to research the layout of the maze and plan my escape— I’m always eager to find my “way out”.

No shock here. We as humans prefer to never feel trapped. Think about when you walk into a new place; most people go ahead and pinpoint the “EXIT” signs. Or what about when kids enter into that huge obstacle course at Chuck E Cheese or a fast food restaurant? What is the first thing they do? (besides look for their parents and wave with a smile through an opening lol). They look for a “WAY OUT”.

It’s as if looking for a way out is embedded in our DNA as human beings. However, what happens when we feel as though there is no way out? What do we do when the way out can’t be so easily found? This my friend, is when we turn to the Lord —the ultimate WAYMAKER.

 

There are many instances in the Bible where God literally made a way out of no way.

• God parting the Red sea = God making a way (Exodus 14: 1-30)
• God delivering Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace = God making a way (Daniel 3:1-30)
• God releasing Paul and Silas from wrongful imprisonment = God making a way (Acts 16:16-40)

The Bible says that God makes ways in seas (Isaiah 43:16) and ways in wilderness (Isaiah 43:19). It also reminds us that even when we feel overtaken or trapped by temptation, God is always faithful enough to provide a way of escape. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Wow! That’s powerful stuff.

 

To be completely honest, some of the “mazes” we find ourselves sometimes stuck in may be caused by our own sinful actions. Who knows? The good news is that God doesn’t care how we got to that spot…..

In front of that wall that we didn’t anticipate being there.
In that corner where we feel pressed on each side.
In that curve where it appears we literally keep going around in circles.

God really doesn’t care how we got there. He still will literally make a way out. Even if he has to pick you up from that terrible maze and guide you to safety with his own two hands. He will see you to safety and freedom.

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 that “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed;we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed”. Even when we feel the walls closing in on us, even when we feel trapped; God is there to make a way. To be our WAYMAKER.

Let us always turn to the Lord. Not just when we feel trapped. Not just when we want him to deliver us from things, people, and circumstances. Let us always seek Him and His kingdom first (Matthew 6:33). Let our steps always be ordered by Him (Psalm 37:23). So that we may be sure that even when we are lost, or feel trapped, we are walking in His beautiful will and we can rest assure that He will readily MAKE A WAY.
