Operating From Faith, Not Fear: A Christian Perspective

 

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

 

“MAKING MOVES”.

We, millennials, love this phrase. It’s what some of us say when big decisions or changes are occurring. These ‘moves’ can be public or silent. Doesn’t matter— all “making moves” means is that you’re handling business or setting up the stage to get things done.

Each day we have the opportunity to make decisions and “make moves”. However, did you know these so called “moves” can emerge either from a place of FAITH or fear?

FAITH based moved means you enter into the execution of a plan with faith that God will strengthen you and keep you along the entire journey (no matter what challenges you face or barriers arise). As Christians, these are the types of “moves” we should also strive to make, particularly after prayer.  Meanwhile, fear based moves mean things like:

• “Uhhhh I guess I will go ahead and do this, not really sure though.”
• “This probably won’t work out anyway but let’s see”.
• “I’m not really good enough for this”
• “I don’t have enough ___ for this”
• “Let me just do this and pray it works out later”

 

Do you see the difference?!

What good is it to make a move but be operating in fear— with little confidence and with an anxious spirit? How long do you think that type of  move will actually be successful?

Sometimes we get caught up in the HOW and forget the WHO we have on our team. As Christians, we know we have a King on the Throne who sits high and looks low and that ALL things work together for the good of them who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28)

• Apply for that job!
• Try to get approved for that mortgage loan!
• Start that new business!
• Ask that woman out on a date!

 

Exactly “how” things work out is not our concern. Step out on faith. Make a FAITH BASED MOVE and stop operating out of fear.

 

I will never forget that I woke up one morning a few years ago with this very clear thought on my mind. “Dana, all this time, you’ve been waiting on God, when God has actually been waiting on you.”.

Whoa! What a revelation this was.

This was when my mindset and my “moves” in life begin to shift. I began to be just as much as “doer” as I was a “thinker”. I began to navigate life differently- more boldly and with a sense of expectancy. I began operating more from a position of faith instead of fear and I haven’t looked back since!

I will leave you with an excerpt from the Bible on Faith and Deeds: What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.—James 2:14-17

What is it that you’ve been desiring and trusting God for but not actually making moves toward? I am here to tell to you to Make that FAITH Based Move!
