Assembly Required: What God’s Plan Requires of Us

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with furniture and décor shopping. I like making my living space comfy and more functional but boooooy do I dislike “assembling” things.

For example, the writing desk I ordered almost two months prior had been sitting next to my front door in a box staring at me for nearly 3 weeks before I finally decided I’d had enough and that it was time to ASSEMBLE it.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’d asked people to come help me… SEVERAL people. I’d even offered to pay someone to put it together for me. But every time they were on their way to assemble the desk, something would come up—leaving me left with the task of assembly all over again.

I remember even texting my friends from church one day jokingly saying “I think God wants me to put this desk together by myself”. I was truly joking at the time, but now I see what life lesson there was lurking amidst this task.

Assembly Required: What God's Plan Requires of Christians

Sometimes assembly will be required.  *Ahem, let me repeat that. Sometimes, ASSEMBLY will be REQUIRED. This means that God’s plan for our lives will require work, but never force. We won’t have to “force” what God has for us. That thing that is meant for you, may require hard work but I guarantee what is “for you” won’t have to be forced.

  • We may have to get on your knees.
  • We may have to do some bending and reaching.
  • We may have to put some elbow grease behind it.
  • We will be required to do some reading and some planning.
  • We will have to put forth some effort.

But again, what is for you, will be for you. Just like that desk that was meant to be assembled will be able to be assembled. No matter how many times I tried to force the nail for “A” into the leg clearly labeled “B”, it would not fit. It wasn’t designed to fit. We should never feel the need to force things.

Is there anything in your life right now that feels forced? Have you talked to God about it? Might I suggest that if something was truly for you, it will take work but never feel forced?

Romans 8:28

Remember this scripture as you reflect on the answer to this question: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

So what does God’s plan require of us? Maybe patience, skill, wisdom and knowledge, and zeal but definitely not force.Logo

  1. So true! If it feels forced it probably doesn’t fit so I should stop trying to make it fit. The Lord will give us the skills to do what He has called us to do. I like your desk by the way it’s so cute.
